Caroline Ferriday and the Ravensbrück Lapins (rabbits)

Caroline Ferriday and the Ravensbrück Lapins (rabbits) In-Person

Caroline Ferriday, former owner of the Bellamy-Ferriday House in Bethlehem, was a lifelong Francophile.  Her French connection led to her pivotal role in helping the post-War recovery of the Ravensbrück Lapins (rabbits), survivors of the Ravensbrück concentration camp and its program of forced Nazi medical experiments.  Ravensbrück, a concentration camp exclusively for women, was located in Northern Germany and operated from 1939 to 1945.  In 1958, 13 years after World War II ended, Ferriday was among the first to awaken the American public to the horrors of Ravensbrück.

The camp was liberated by the Russian Army and not the American Army, making the history of this atrocity slow to emerge.  Join Peg Shimer, Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden's Site Administrator for a talk on Caroline Ferriday, her heroic acts, and the brave women she helped after the war ended.
